Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung to Reopen in August 2026
The central government has officially decided to bring forward the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung to August 2026 to serve domestic and regional international routes. This strategic decision was agreed upon jointly with the regional government and the airport will be managed again by state-owned enterprise PT Angkasa Pura (In Journey) in response to the increasingly urgent need for public mobility and air connectivity in West Java. “The central government together with the regional government has agreed to reactivate Husein Airport to serve flights,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi at Leuwipanjang Terminal in Bandung on Wednesday. Dudy detailed that his ministry has prepared permits for 20 to 24 domestic flight routes, while also accommodating a direct request from the regional government regarding operational permits for regional international flights. “We want to ensure that before the operation, planned for August if I am not mistaken, moved forward from September, Husein Airport’s infrastructure is truly ready to serve domestic and regional international flights,” Dudy stated. The synergy in preparing facilities is also being matched by the Bandung City Government. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan confirmed that his administration has moved quickly to repair and beautify supporting infrastructure outside the airport area. Farhan explained that the external area arrangement includes improving road access, cleaning the surrounding environment, and upgrading crucial points leading to the city entrance in accordance with the regional leadership’s directives. He added that the Bandung city government is also preparing several thematic physical developments in the buffer zone, such as the renewal of the Husein Gate and an aesthetic overhaul of the Pasteur Toll Gate exit area to welcome both local and international tourists.
