Husband Rapes Mother-in-Law, Arrested While Hiding in Ceiling
A man, identified only by his initials SA (44), in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, was arrested after allegedly raping his mother-in-law, H (49). The perpetrator was caught while hiding in the ceiling of his house.
The arrest took place on Jalan Barua, Parangbanoa Village, Pallangga District, Gowa Regency, on Wednesday (25 February) at 00:30 local time.
A video circulating online shows several police officers raiding SA’s house at night. The officers are seen searching the house with the help of flashlights.
As they approached the back of the house, the perpetrator appeared to try to escape. The man was seen wearing a sarong and was on top of the house’s ceiling.
The police threatened to shoot the perpetrator if he tried to escape. Eventually, the perpetrator surrendered and came down from the ceiling.
“Yes, the perpetrator climbed into the ceiling when his house was raided,” said the Head of the Gowa Police’s Mobile Criminal Unit, Ipda Andi Muhammad Alfian, to detikSulsel on Thursday (26 February 2026).
The rape incident occurred on Thursday (19 January) at around 02:00 local time. At that time, the victim was sleeping in her bedroom when the perpetrator suddenly appeared and forced her to have sexual intercourse.
“The perpetrator entered the victim’s house and forced her to have sexual intercourse like a husband and wife. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on her hands and experienced trauma,” Alfian said.
The victim reported the incident to the South Sulawesi Police on 29 January. The police report number is LP/B/139/I/2026 at the South Sulawesi Police’s General Criminal Investigation Unit on 29 January.
During questioning, the perpetrator admitted to his actions. The man claimed to have had sexual intercourse with the victim once.
“The perpetrator admitted to entering the victim’s room and forcing her to have sexual intercourse like a husband and wife once,” he explained.
The perpetrator is now being held at the Gowa Police Station for further legal proceedings. He has been charged with Article 473 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with the charge of rape.
