House of Representatives Commission X has spotlighted the case of an LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education) scholarship recipient identified by the initials DS, who went viral after declaring “it’s enough that I’m an Indonesian citizen — my children don’t need to be.” Commission X is now pressing for an evaluation of LPDP’s oversight and contract enforcement.

“What is of concern is that her husband is also an LPDP scholarship recipient who has not yet fulfilled his service obligation. LPDP falls under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia and is funded by public money,” said Commission X Deputy Chairman Lalu Hadrian to journalists on Saturday (21/2/2026).

“This means every scholarship recipient is bound by contract to return and contribute to Indonesia in accordance with the agreed terms,” he added.

According to Hadrian, the controversy is not merely about a child holding British citizenship. Rather, he said, the critical issue is one of accountability to the public.

“The government therefore needs to treat this controversy as material for evaluation. LPDP’s oversight system and contract enforcement must operate firmly and fairly,” he said.

The PKB (National Awakening Party) politician said the public needs assurance that every scholarship recipient is treated equally, and that there are clear consequences for those who breach their commitments.

“In my view, the focus should not be on nationalist sentiment or the choice of a child’s citizenship, but on the integrity and accountability of the management of state education funds. That is far more important to safeguard,” he stated.

Previously, the LPDP disclosed that the husband of the woman identified as DS — the scholarship recipient who went viral for stating “it’s enough that I’m an Indonesian citizen — my children don’t need to be” — had not completed his service contribution. The husband, identified by the initials AP, is also an LPDP scholarship recipient.

This was revealed through an Instagram story shared by the official LPDP account @lpdp_ri on Friday (20/2/2026). The LPDP said it would summon AP.

“Regarding the husband of DS, AP, who has also attracted public attention and is an LPDP alumnus, the individual is suspected of not having completed his contribution obligation after finishing his studies,” the post read.

“LPDP is currently conducting an internal review regarding this matter. LPDP is in the process of summoning AP to request clarification,” it added.
