Husband Kills and Mutilates Wife in Riau Islands After Feeling Insulted

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM – The Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Riau Islands Police (Ditreskrimum Polda Kepri), Kombes Pol Ronni Bonic, revealed that the motive behind the husband killing his wife in Tanjungpinang is suspected to be due to resentment. One of the reasons was the insults related to the perpetrator’s physical appearance.

“So, the perpetrator was hurt because his wife often insulted him, calling him fat and ugly, which made him angry, and he took a wooden block and hit his wife on the head,” said Ronni at the Riau Islands Police Headquarters, Batam, Thursday.

The Polri officer stated that the premeditated murder was carried out by a man with the initials N (67), while the victim was his wife named Harsalena (56) on Wednesday (February 25) night in the Bintan Permata Indah Housing Complex, Jalan Ganet, Tanjungpinang City.

The case is currently being handled by the Tanjungpinang Police, but a team from the Polda’s Ditreskrimum also went to the location to monitor the case.

He said that the perpetrator, N, is a repeat offender who was recently released from Tanjungpinang Prison in August 2025 for a similar case.

“This murder was premeditated, and the perpetrator was his own husband who had just been released from prison for the same crime, which was also murder,” he said.
