A married couple and the owner of a restaurant in Kemang, South Jakarta, are filing reciprocal police reports in a case of alleged food theft. Police are handling the case.

The incident occurred on Thursday (19/9/2025) at the restaurant owned by Nabilah O’Brien. The alleged theft was captured on CCTV and video clips circulated on social media.

The incident began when the couple, identified by the initials Z and E, visited the restaurant owned by Nabilah O’Brien. They then ordered 11 meals and three drinks totalling Rp 530,150.

The couple felt the order was taking too long, and they took matters into their own hands by entering the kitchen to fetch the food they had ordered.

“So we filed a complaint to our staff with all its dynamics,” the restaurant owner’s lawyer, Eishen Simatupang, told Polsek Mampang Prapatan, reported by Antara on Friday (26/9/2025).

The couple then left the restaurant without paying for the meals and drinks they had ordered.

Nabilah O’Brien subsequently filed a police report. The report was registered under LP/B/048/IX/2025/SPKT/Polsek Mampang/Polres Metro Jaksel/Polda Metro Jaya. The report was filed after a somasi (demand letter) issued to the respondents went unresponsive.

The couple also reported Nabilah to Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri for posting a video of the incident online.

Police explanation from Polsek Mampang

Polsek Mampang Prapatan explained that there are two different cases reported to different police offices.

“Regarding the incident at Restoran Bibi Kelinci, there are two different cases reported to different police stations,” according to Polsek Mampang Prapatan on Friday (6/3/2026).

In the first case, Nabilah reported the couple identified by initials ZK and ESR for alleged theft under Article 363 of the KUHP. The case was reported to Polsek Mampang Prapatan at the end of September 2025.

The couple suspected of stealing food from Nabilah’s restaurant has been named as suspects. Polsek Mampang Prapatan will question them next week.

“The two alleged offenders have been named as suspects and are scheduled for questioning on Monday, 9 March 2026. However, their legal counsel has sent a letter requesting a postponement of the examination,” he said.

Meanwhile, the couple Z and E reported Nabilah to Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri for posting the video online.

“The second matter concerns the posting of CCTV footage to social media handled by Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri, in which Ms NAA is listed as the respondent,” he added.

Polsek Mampang explained that two separate cases exist with different objects and are being handled by different police offices.

Chronology according to Nabilah

Nabilah O’Brien recounts the start of the alleged food theft case by the couple. The incident began when the couple ordered food at the restaurant.

Nabilah’s lawyer, Goldie Natasya Swarovski, said the case occurred on 19 September 2025 at 22:51 local time. At that time, the couple identified by the initials Z and E entered the restaurant and ordered 14 food and beverage items.

“Not long after, the two individuals resorted to intimidation by forcing their way into the kitchen area, which is a restricted area for customers. It is restricted, meaning it is not allowed, and it sparked a disturbance,” Swarovski said at a press conference in Kemang, South Jakarta, on Friday (6/3/2026).

Swarovski then stated that Z and E grabbed the right arm of the head kitchen, Abdul Hamid, and struck the chiller while threatening to ransack the restaurant. They are also said to have subjected staff to verbal violence.

“At 12 (midnight) they left the place without paying a single rupiah. Our staff, Rahmat, chased them with an EDC to secure payment, but they ignored it,” she explained.

After that, Nabilah posted CCTV footage of Z and E’s treatment on 20 September on her personal social media account. Swarovski said the post received a positive response from many people.

“Many businesspeople were grateful to our client because she posted it, which helped others be more careful. It turned out the posting had very positive results, more or less like that,” she said.

Following the posting, Nabilah issued a somasi on 24 September demanding an open apology. She wanted Z and E to publicly and personally apologise to the staff and acknowledge their actions.

“So our client is merely asking for an open and personal apology to our staff,” she added.

On 25 September, Nabilah filed a report with Polsek Mampang Prapatan for theft. Two days later, on 27 September, Nabilah was somed back by Z and E.

“They responded with a counter-somasi, claiming Rp 1 billion in damages for the losses they experienced from the CCTV posting,” she said.

Subsequently, on 30 September, Z and E reported Nabilah to Bareskrim Polri for alleged violations of the ITE Law, defamation and slander. Then on 30 September and 17 November, Polsek Mampang and Bareskrim held mediation sessions for both parties.

“We have already carried out mediation twice, facilitated by Bareskrim and by the police, and not …
