Husband and Wife Arrested in Kudus for Molotov Cocktail Attack on Home

Police have successfully arrested a married couple, identified by the initials S (40) and HS (36), for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a resident’s house in Sambung Village, Undaan District, Kudus Regency. The arrest also uncovered the motive behind the attack, which nearly burnt down the victim’s home.

Kudus Police Resort (Polres Kudus) managed to solve the case involving the attack on the house of HW, located in Sambung Village, and secured several pieces of evidence. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators acted out of resentment after discovering the victim had been flirting with the wife.

“The case of the Molotov cocktail attack on HW’s house in the early hours of 22 May 2026 has been solved, and both perpetrators have been arrested,” said the Deputy Chief of Kudus Police, Kompol Rendi Johan Prasetyo, on Tuesday (30/6).

The suspects, S and HS, are residents of Kajar Village, Dawe District, Kudus Regency. They were apprehended after officers from the Kudus Police Criminal Unit conducted an in-depth investigation into the incident.

The incident began when the victim, who was inside the house at the time, heard the sound of breaking glass at the front of the property. Upon checking, the victim discovered the living room was on fire and, with the help of local residents, worked to extinguish the flames to prevent the fire from spreading to other rooms.

During the firefighting efforts, the victim, HW, found a beverage bottle smelling of petrol with a burnt wick. Suspecting arson, the victim reported the matter to the village security (Linmas), which was then forwarded to the Undaan Police Sub-district due to suspicions regarding the cause of the fire.

Police officers arriving at the scene conducted a crime scene investigation and a thorough inquiry that led them to the married couple. Upon interrogation, both suspects confessed to throwing the Molotov cocktail.

According to the suspects’ confession, the motive was resentment towards the victim, as the perpetrator’s wife, D, was allegedly involved in an affair with the victim, HW. “There was a previous relationship, but it had ended; however, the victim allegedly began flirting with the perpetrator’s wife again, which was then reported to the husband,” added Rendi Johan Prasetyo.

Perpetrator HS was arrested at his home, while perpetrator S had briefly fled into the forest. For their actions, both individuals face charges under Article 308 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code (KUHP), with a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.
