Hundreds Suspected of Planning Disruptions During May Day in Jakarta Uncovered
Jakarta Metropolitan Police have successfully detected potential disruptions during the International Labour Day or May Day celebrations in Jakarta. Hundreds of people along with criminal evidence have been secured.
Compiled by detikcom on Saturday (2/5/2026), a total of 101 people were secured by officers. They were apprehended from various points in Jakarta on Friday (1/5).
“A number of 101 people are providing information to us, and we will convey that after the provision of that information is complete, they will immediately return to their respective homes,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation of Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Friday (1/5).
Seizure of Sharp Weapons to Molotov Bombs
Officers seized Molotov bombs to sharp weapons from the arrests of the perpetrators. Slingshots and their ammunition were also among the evidence seized by the officers.
Not only that, officers also secured concrete nails intended to damage buildings to concrete barriers. The secured parties planned to damage concrete buildings during the mass oration.
“The first is empty bottles as seen, those are empty bottles and trigger cloths to make Molotov bombs,” he said.
“Likewise, we found or secured sharp weapons from their hands,” he added.
Iman assured that the 101 secured people would be returned after the questioning is complete. Police are also coordinating with several legal aid institutions to ensure the rights of the secured parties are fulfilled.
“We hope that parents and families can immediately coordinate with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police or the nearest police stations. This is intended to avoid disinformation or misinformation,” Iman stated.
There is a Map and Attack Rundown
Police suspect that the plan for disruptions during May Day in Jakarta has been meticulously prepared by the alleged perpetrators. This is because findings of maps to attack rundowns that would be carried out by the suspected disruptive masses were discovered.
“And we found documents planning to carry out riots. They have prepared their comrades as clearly depicted here, you can also see on the screen, the rundown,” said Iman.

From the documents successfully seized by officers, it appears there are arrival routes and evacuation routes from the parties suspected of wanting to cause disruptions. Everything has been prepared by the alleged perpetrators.
“This has been prepared by them. So coming from where, then what the incident will be like, and returning to where. The gathering points they have determined,” he said.
In conversations from the secured people, Iman explained that the alleged perpetrators planned to attack officers who were working to secure the mass action. They also used social media for provocation efforts.
“In their conversations among themselves, several facts emerged, including that they planned to pit labour union elements against each other by infiltrating during the ongoing activities,” he said.
Figure Behind Funding Traced
In addition to sharp weapons and Molotovs, police also seized cash from one of the secured parties. The figure providing the funds is currently being investigated by officers.
“This is a sum of money that we successfully secured from the hands of one of the field coordinators, based on information from the person to us that the money would be used or given to those who attended together with their group,” said Iman.
The secured money itself amounts to Rp 10.9 million. Iman said his side is tracing any intellectual actors behind the riot plan.
“So our law enforcement team at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police is currently deepening investigations into sources of provocative information as well as funding sources for their activities,” he said.
May Day 2026 in Jakarta Safe and Orderly
Jakarta Metropolitan Police assured that the implementation of May Day 2026 in Jakarta on Friday (1/5) took place safely. There were three points of demonstration actions in Jakarta during May Day 2026.
“So if we look at today, the May Day activities, alhamdulillah, all went safely, orderly, and under control. Both the May Day Fiesta at Monas, as well as the delivery of public aspirations carried out in front of the DPR/MPR building, and at the DKI Provincial Manpower Office,” said the Head of Public Relations of Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, during a press conference at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Friday (1/5).
Budi also appreciated other parties who helped secure the May Day 2026 celebrations in Jakarta. Police appreciated the workers who carried out today’s action in a conducive manner.
He added that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police prioritised a humanistic approach in securing May Day 2026 in Jakarta. This is so that the delivery of aspirations runs comfortably and safely.
“In the series of security efforts, early detection and prevention efforts against potential public order disturbances in general were carried out. This took place, in general, safely, orderly, and conducive,” he said.
