Hundreds oppose U.S. attack on Iraq

JAKARTA: Hundreds of Indonesians from various organizations rallied in front of the U.S. Embassy here Tuesday, opposing what they say are U.S. plans to invade Iraq.

The demonstrators included those from Women's Solidarity, the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muslim organization, the Utan Kayu Community, the Muhammadiyah Muslim organization, the Islamic Students Association (HMI), the Liberal Islam Network (JIL), the student executive body of the State Islamic University, the National Front for the Struggle of Indonesian Workers and the Muhammadiyah Students Association.

They also expressed opposition to all forms of war.

Ulil Absar Abdala of NU said the U.S. had no clear reason to attack Iraq.
