Hundreds of Young People Arrested in East Jakarta for Illegal Convoy with Fireworks and Synthetic Tobacco
Hundreds of young people were detained by the East Jakarta Metro Police. The youths were arrested after being caught conducting a convoy whilst carrying fireworks and synthetic tobacco in the East Jakarta area.
“A total of 126 young people were secured by the Precision Pioneer Patrol Team of the East Jakarta Metro Police together with Brimob Patra,” said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Brigadier General Alfian Nurrizal via his social media account on Saturday (14 March 2025).
The young people conducted a convoy whilst setting off fireworks and flare guns. Their actions were deemed to have caused public unrest and potentially posed a threat to safety and order on the roads.
“They were caught conducting a convoy on public roads whilst setting off fireworks and flare guns and carrying flags that could potentially disturb public order,” said Alfian.
Police subsequently conducted a search of the hundreds of youths. As a result, various pieces of evidence were discovered, including alcohol and synthetic tobacco.
“During this operation, officers also found a number of items of evidence in the form of synthetic tobacco and alcohol allegedly carried by the convoy participants,” he added.
The hundreds of young people were then taken to the police station. They were registered and questioned further by investigators.
“All the young people who were apprehended were subsequently brought to the East Jakarta Metro Police station for registration and further questioning,” he stated.
