Hundreds of Visitors Flock to Toa Se Bio Temple to Celebrate Lunar New Year
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of visitors packed the Toa Se Bio Temple in Glodok, Tamansari, West Jakarta, during the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations on Tuesday.
Observers at the scene noted that visitors appeared deeply absorbed in prayer. The majority arrived with family members or partners, wearing traditional Lunar New Year-themed attire.
Security personnel were stationed at the entrance and throughout the temple grounds. William, one of the temple volunteers, explained that various activities had been held during the Lunar New Year celebrations at the temple.
“Yesterday we held a communal prayer service precisely at midnight, when we performed the traditional drum-beating ceremony,” William said.
Following that, the congregation also offered prayers to Cai Shen Ye, the God of Wealth, as part of the tradition of seeking good fortune.
Beyond the main rituals, the series of worship services will continue through to the Cap Go Meh celebration, which falls on the fifteenth day after Lunar New Year.
During this period, William said, the public is still permitted to share angpao (red envelopes) and is encouraged to maintain good conduct in order to preserve blessings.
“From the first to the fifteenth day, it is still Lunar New Year. So that means you can still distribute angpao. And if possible, try not to lose your temper. Otherwise, your fortune will disappear,” he said.
He also expressed his hope that the Lunar New Year would bring protection and peace for all, particularly as various global threats such as conflict and economic crisis have made the public anxious.
“The hope is that everyone will be protected and that the state of the world can become more peaceful. May this year bring good fortune and goodness for many people,” he said.
