Hundreds of Tons of Waste Accumulate in Cimahi Due to Landfill Restrictions
Cimahi Mayor Ngatiyana stated that the city’s daily waste production reaches 250 tonnes, but only 14 waste collection trucks, equivalent to 60 tonnes, are allowed to dump at Sarimukti Landfill. “Cimahi produces 250 tonnes of waste daily, but Sarimukti Landfill’s capacity is limited. Only 14 trucks, around 60 tonnes, can be accepted each day, leaving 190 tonnes to be processed,” Ngatiyana said during a confirmation on Wednesday (27 May 2026). The waste disposal restrictions at Sarimukti are outlined in a Provincial West Java Secretary of State Circular (SE No. 6174/PBLS.04/DLH) regarding the Warning and Limitation of Waste Disposal to the Regional Waste Processing and Final Disposal Facility (TPPAS) Sarimukti. Under the circular, Cimahi City is allocated a maximum of 1,668 tonnes every two weeks. Ngatiyana said the restrictions mean Cimahi City Government must manage a significant amount of waste, with current waste processing capacity still limited, leading to frequent illegal dumpsites across various locations. “Our waste processing machines can only handle 50 tonnes a day, so we urge residents to sort waste at the source, separating organic and inorganic materials to help manage disposal,” Ngatiyana added. He continued that the city aims for zero landfill, processing all 250 tonnes locally, including through the upcoming TPST Santiong Integrated Waste Processing Site, which will process up to 85 tonnes daily. “We aim to stop sending waste to Sarimukti Landfill entirely. Besides our management efforts, public participation is crucial,” Ngatiyana said.
