Hundreds of Thousands of Workers Expected to Attend May Day 2026 at National Monument
JAKARTA, Kompas.com – Andi Gani Nena Wea, president of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), has claimed that the 2026 International Workers’ Day commemoration will be attended by hundreds of thousands of workers.
The commemoration will be held at the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta.
“Approximately 250,000 workers will attend the May Day commemoration this year,” said Andi Gani in a statement on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Andi made this statement during a Ramadan gathering with Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in Surabaya, East Java, on Tuesday.
Furthermore, Andi conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the event.
“We recently met with the President in a closed meeting last Friday for approximately two hours. In that meeting, he confirmed that he would attend the May Day commemoration at Monas, Jakarta directly,” he said.
In addition to attending the Workers’ Day celebration, Prabowo is also scheduled to inaugurate the Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk District, East Java, on 2 May 2026.
The museum was built as a tribute to the struggle of Marsinah, who is known as a symbol of the labour rights movement in Indonesia.
He added that the May Day commemoration this year will also be attended by five leaders of international trade unions who are scheduled to visit Jakarta.
Although expected to be attended by hundreds of thousands of workers, Andi Gani assured that the May Day commemoration will take place peacefully and in good order.
“We will continue to work together to protect Indonesia and ensure stability and solidarity are preserved forever,” he affirmed.
On this occasion, Andi Gani also expressed appreciation for Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, whom he valued for supporting various initiatives related to worker protection.
