Hundreds of Students from 165 Schools Participate in UN Simulation in South Tangerang

A total of 270 students from 165 schools participated in the Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) BSD Chapter in South Tangerang on 18-19 July 2026. The event served as a platform for participants to learn international diplomacy through a simulation of United Nations (UN) proceedings. Participants, ranging from primary school to university level, came from Greater Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Jambi, Palembang, North Sumatra, East Kalimantan, and Manado. During the conference, participants engaged in simulated sessions, negotiations, and the drafting of resolutions mirroring the UN process. All sessions were guided by chairs or facilitators from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. President of International Global Network (IGN) Muhammad Fahrizal stated that the high level of student participation reflects the growing interest among the younger generation in learning about diplomacy and global issues. ‘So that students from various regions can access global perspective learning more closely,’ Fahrizal said in a statement on Wednesday (22/7/2026). According to Fahrizal, AYIMUN BSD Chapter also provided a space for students to develop their ability to express opinions, engage in constructive discussion, and build solutions together. ‘At AYIMUN BSD Chapter, you will learn to express opinions, discuss constructively, and also learn to listen to people who have different views from you. You will learn to find solutions together, not just win a debate,’ Fahrizal said. Head of the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Bappelitbangda) of South Tangerang City, Fuad, also motivated participants to continue improving their confidence, skills, and knowledge. AYIMUN BSD Chapter was organised by IGN with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Pertamina. During the event, 30 students received scholarships to attend the conference. The conference adopted the theme ‘Ethics in Crisis: Navigating Rights, Risks, and Responsibility in the Globalized Era’. Participants discussed the issue of prescription drug abuse in the WHO forum and sustainable water management and water-saving technology in the UNEP forum. The organisers stated that previous AYIMUN chapters had been held in Kelapa Gading and Bekasi and received a three-star recognition from the National Achievement Centre (Puspresnas) for the national-level competition category. The next conference is scheduled to take place in Pekanbaru on 25-26 July 2026 and in Depok on 1-2 August 2026.
