REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON – The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, will temporarily suspend the operation of motorcycle taxi drivers, rickshaw drivers, and horse-drawn carriage drivers during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return traffic flow of 1447 Hijri. This is intended to minimise the potential for traffic congestion during the annual event.

One of the areas identified as prone to traffic congestion is Cirebon. Therefore, the local government has begun to take action by collecting data on rickshaw drivers who will be affected by the ban on operating during the homecoming and return traffic flow.

The Head of the Traffic Division of the Cirebon Regency Transportation Department, Mida Aftiyani, confirmed that the rickshaw drivers will not be left without income, even though they are prohibited from operating for two weeks. “There will be compensation for the rickshaw drivers,” said Mida, Thursday (26/2/2026).

Based on data from the previous year, the number of rickshaw drivers who applied to receive compensation reached 557 people. However, this figure is not yet final as it is still awaiting verification from the provincial government.

“The province is still conducting verification. We are only monitoring and evaluating,” she said.

According to her, the verification is carried out to ensure that only active rickshaw drivers who meet the requirements are included in the list of compensation recipients. The verification process is also carried out strictly by involving experts.

One of the mandatory requirements that must be met is to attach a photo of the e-ID card and a photo of the personally owned rickshaw. This is to minimise the potential for fraud in the field. n lilis sri handayani
