Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of protesters from various universities in Jakarta and its surroundings held a demonstration at the back entrance of the Constitutional Court building. During the ongoing action, the protesters displayed several banners bearing their demands, such as “Stop Terror Against Anti-Militarism,” “Oppose Fascism,” and others. At the location, a number of protesters from various universities were still delivering speeches at the back entrance of the Constitutional Court building. As of now, the situation at the protest site remains safe and conducive, although part of Jalan Abdul Muis in Central Jakarta is being used by the protesters. Previously, the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort deployed 1,031 combined personnel to handle the demonstration taking place in the Central Jakarta area. “We are present to serve the public in expressing their aspirations in a humane, professional, and rule-compliant manner,” said the Chief of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort, Commissioner Pol Reynold E.P. Hutagalung, in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, 1,031 combined personnel from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Resorts, and Sub-District Police Stations under its jurisdiction were prepared to handle the demonstration organised by the UI Student Executive Board and several other community elements in the Central Jakarta area. He assured that the security measures were carried out on the principle of serving the public and respecting citizens’ constitutional rights to express opinions in public. “There are 1,031 combined personnel to handle the demonstration,” he stated.
