Hundreds of people crowded the Iranian ambassador to Indonesia Mohamad Boroujerdi’s residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon (5 March).

From observations, attendees took turns in prayers for the events unfolding in Iran and the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The crowd also signed a petition expressing sympathy and condolences over the events in Iran, and condemning the actions of the United States and Israel.

One attendee, Nizar (35), said he deeply regretted the actions of the United States and Israel towards Iran.

Nizar said he learned of the prayer gathering from posts on social media.

“I have come to pray for the people of Iran. Innocent people who have become victims,” Nizar said.

On the occasion, Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohamad Boroujerdi, said Iran is mourning the loss of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Boroujerdi expressed thanks to the people who came to pray and offer condolences.

He also said he had received many messages of solidarity from Indonesian figures.

‘Today we mourn the loss of a Great Leader who never compromised with the enemy, who has consistently opposed various hegemonies of violence and genocide, who opposes murder wherever it occurs,’ Boroujerdi said.
