Hundreds of Mataram Students Punished with Push-ups for Skipping School

The Mataram Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) has rounded up hundreds of students caught skipping school and loitering in food stalls and angkringan during class hours. The students were subsequently punished with push-ups. “From several recent operations, almost 135 individuals have been caught. They range from senior high to junior high school students,” said Jaya Wisnawa, Operational Coordinator of the Mataram Satpol PP, on Monday (15/6/2026). Jaya revealed that the students were netted during the first two weeks of June 2026, with most playing truant while lessons were in progress. “They hang out in places that mostly provide Wi-Fi,” he added. According to Jaya, business owners should also help monitor and reprimand students who visit during school hours. Popular gathering spots for truants include the Gomong Road area, behind the Mataram Regional Hospital, Jalan Udayana, and the Mayura area. “We take a persuasive approach, urging the students to go home immediately while reminding the stall owners. If we find them again in the same place after being warned, we directly order them to do push-ups,” Jaya explained. In addition to truancy, the Mataram Satpol PP is also focusing on illegal street racing during the early morning hours, with hotspots identified along Jalan Udayana, Jalan Nangka, Cakranegara, and Jalan Lingkar Selatan in Sekarbela.
