Hundreds of Logs Stranded on Sumenep Coast

Hundreds of logs were found stranded along the coast of Dungkek District, Sumenep Regency, East Java. The owners of the timber have not yet been identified.

The logs were discovered washed ashore on Sunday (20/09/2026). Residents suspect that the logs were cargo from a ship that fell into the sea due to being hit by bad weather.

Fathorrahman, a resident of Dungkelle, stated that the logs were found spanning from the coast of Dungkek Village to Bicabbi Village in the Dungkek District.

According to him, the stranded wood is quite large, with diameters of approximately 1 metre and lengths of 4 to 5 metres.

“They were found from last night until this afternoon. There are many, perhaps up to hundreds of logs,” said Fathorrahman.

He noted that the presence of the logs has caused concern among residents, particularly fishermen, as they could interfere with the activities of boats moored near the coast.

Meanwhile, a team from the Sumenep Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), along with police officers, is heading to the location to assess the situation on the ground and to anticipate any potential unforeseen incidents.
