Hundreds of KRL "Green Line" Passengers Stranded at Tanah Abang Station, Platforms Full
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Hundreds of electric rail train (KRL) passengers were stranded at Tanah Abang Station in Central Jakarta on Monday (4/5/2026) evening. The stranded passengers were mostly on the KRL Green Line route, or the Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung line, due to an electrical disruption on the overhead lines. Kompas.com observations at the location at 19:48 WIB showed passengers crowding the first floor of both the old and new Tanah Abang Station buildings. A similar scene occurred on the second floor of the new Tanah Abang Station building. Passengers filled the area from the west to the east side of the station, standing or sitting in groups. Near the transit corridor for platforms 5 and 6, the area was packed with dozens of people heading to the Green Line route platforms. As time passed, the queue of passengers grew longer as many arrived via transit at Tanah Abang Station from the directions of Manggarai, Sudirman, or Bekasi. Station staff could be heard announcing over the loudspeaker that there was a disruption on the KRL service to Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung. According to the information broadcast, KRL trains could only operate up to Kebayoran Station. Putri, who was heading home and planning to alight at Cisauk Station, had been waiting at Tanah Abang Station since 17:00 WIB. “I’ve been waiting for over two hours. The KRL hasn’t been operational because, apparently, there was a lightning strike from Pondok Ranji to Jurangmangu,” Putri explained to Kompas.com. “There was also a bit of flooding. And apparently, there’s flooding in Palmerah too. So, I’m just waiting. I’ve already informed the family, my husband and child,” she added.
