Hundreds of Homes Flooded in Rawa Terate Cakung as Pumps Deployed
Hundreds of homes in Rawa Terate sub-district, Cakung, East Jakarta, were inundated by flooding. The Cakung Water Resources Implementation Unit deployed flood-pumping equipment to hasten the recession of floodwaters.
"We are also operating two floating pumps with a capacity of 250 litres per second, as well as one mobile pump unit with a capacity of 1,000 litres per second," said Dian Nur Cahyono, Head of the Cakung Sub-district Water Resources Implementation Unit, in Jakarta on Friday (20 February 2026).
The flooding, he said, was caused by heavy rain that had been falling since the early hours of the morning.
In addition to the pumps, the Cakung Sub-district Water Resources Implementation Unit also deployed a number of joint personnel to manage the inundation and ensure it receded quickly.
"A total of 11 'blue squad' personnel have been deployed to handle the flooding, including portable pumps at the Cakung Drain Canal, which are now operational," said Dian.
Meanwhile, Rawa Terate Sub-district Head Jainudin added that four Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management (PPSU) officers had been deployed to monitor floodwater levels and carry out rapid evacuations should residents require assistance.
"We have two rubber boats on standby at the RW 05 Flood Command Post to anticipate residents who may need evacuation assistance," said Jainudin.
Flooding in the area began at approximately 04:30 local time and continued until 09:30, with water levels ranging between 50 and 80 centimetres.
In the RT 10 neighbourhood, approximately 172 homes were affected by the inundation. However, residents remained in their homes and none had yet evacuated.
The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 61 neighbourhood units (RT) and six roads were flooded as of 07:00 local time.
"BPBD records show that currently 61 neighbourhood units and six road sections are inundated," said Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Disaster Data and Information Centre at DKI Jakarta's BPBD, on Friday.
DKI Jakarta's BPBD deployed personnel to monitor flooding conditions across all affected areas. The agency coordinated with the Water Resources Agency, the Highways Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Service to pump out floodwaters and ensure drainage channels were functioning properly.
Together with local sub-district and district heads, Yohan continued, all agencies were also preparing basic necessities for flood survivors. Authorities targeted a swift recession of the floodwaters.
