Hundreds of Firearms Found at a Private School in Jakarta
A total of 995 firearms, pornographic video CDs, and narcotics were found in a locked room at a private school located in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. The discovery occurred on Friday (10/7/2026).
“We found several more weapons. Including, we also found narcotics and pornographic CDs,” said Hermawanto, the legal representative of the private school foundation, at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Thursday (6/8/2026).
Hermawanto said that in July, precisely on Friday (10/7/2026), his team discovered 995 firearms, ammunition, and several other weapon accessories. Then, on Wednesday (5/8/2026), his team again found several weapons, marijuana and methamphetamine-type narcotics, as well as pornographic VCDs. Eventually, his team decided to contact the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
“So, we need to inform the public that because there are a very large number of weapons, nearly a thousand weapons, we want this case to be immediately followed up seriously by the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” he said.
Meanwhile, Untung Sangaji, an expert staff member to the chairman of the private school foundation’s board of trustees, added details about the chronology of the discovery. At that time, the school opened a locked room for the needs of the school’s children.
“However, suddenly when we opened the room for the school’s purposes, we found equipment referred to as weapons. Airsoft guns that can kill because the barrels are smooth with no rifling,” said Untung.
The findings included 995 rounds of handgun ammunition, a 12/70 calibre shotgun, a 5.56 mm calibre barrel, handguns of 40 and 9 mm calibre respectively, three Glock-type magazines with a capacity of 30 rounds each, one Walther magazine of .22 calibre, one M4 magazine, and one bullet-making device.
In addition, officers also found narcotics in an unspecified quantity and around 25 VCDs with various contents.
“I ask my colleagues to sharpen my words. Why is it that in a school that we greatly respect, from kindergarten, primary, junior high, to senior high school, there are people secretly carrying out their activities there?” he said.
Accordingly, the arrival of the private school foundation’s legal representative was to request assistance with the investigation process from the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
“Because these weapons could be misused and remain dangerous to anyone. Moreover, these weapons were stored on school premises, which is certainly dangerous for the students and teachers. So that is what we hope for, and we hope the police will process this very seriously,” he said.
