Hundreds of Families in Sukabumi Face Clean Water Crisis

Hundreds of families in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, are affected by drought. They are experiencing a clean water crisis amidst a prolonged dry season that has lasted for more than a month. Manager of the Control and Operations Centre (Pusdalops) of the Sukabumi Regency BPBD, Daeng Sutisna, said the clean water crisis is occurring in one community unit (RW) in Cicurug District. Four neighbourhood units (RT) across two villages are experiencing water difficulties. “Based on reports and field monitoring, the clean water crisis is occurring in Kampung Legok Bitung RT 01 and Kampung Kebon Kawung RT 02, 03, and 04 in Nanggerang Village,” Daeng said on Sunday (12/7). Daeng stated that field data collection showed the majority of local residents rely on well water. Currently, the well water in each house has receded. “In the four RTs spread across one RW, there are 400 families or around 1,000 people experiencing a clean water crisis,” he said. On Saturday (11/7), the BPBD distributed clean water aid to the affected residents. A total of 10,000 litres of water was channelled to the local community. “On Saturday, we sent two tanks of clean water aid. Each tank carried 5,000 litres,” Daeng said. The BPBD, through the local District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK), continues to coordinate with village officials, Tagana, Babinsa, Bhabinkamtibmas, and the community to conduct assessments at the scene.
