Hundreds of Counterfeit Lacoste Goods Worth Rp 1 Billion Destroyed

The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law has destroyed 567 pieces of evidence from a Lacoste trademark infringement case, with an estimated economic value of nearly Rp 1 billion. The destruction is a follow-up to the resolution of the trademark violation case handled by Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) of the DJKI.

Director General of Intellectual Property Hermansyah Siregar explained that the destruction resulted from the handling of a trademark infringement case that was resolved through a peace mechanism between PT Terra Store and Lacoste. The case resolution was carried out to provide intellectual property protection and law enforcement.

“This is to protect rights holders, create legal certainty, maintain healthy business competition, protect consumers, and encourage a conducive investment climate,” Hermansyah said in Jakarta on Monday (22/6/2026).

Director of Law Enforcement at DJKI, Arie Ardian Rishadi, explained that the evidence destroyed consisted of 135 jerseys, 42 training trousers, 25 jackets, 204 shirts, 32 sweaters, 9 polo t-shirts, 91 t-shirts, and 29 boxer shorts. All of these items were previously stored as evidence during the case handling process.

“Now they are destroyed as part of the implementation of the agreement between the parties, which has obtained legal certainty,” said Arie.

According to him, based on calculations using the retail price of similar genuine products on the market, the total evidence has an estimated economic value of around Rp 940.4 million. This value indicates the magnitude of potential losses that could be caused if products using the trademark without rights were circulated in the community.

“Trademark infringement not only harms the rights holder, but also has the potential to mislead consumers and disrupt healthy business competition,” Arie stated.
