Jakarta — Hundreds of empty and loaded container trucks became gridlocked within the Tanjung Priok Port complex in North Jakarta on Friday afternoon.

“This long queue has been happening for quite a while and I was forced to turn off the engine,” said one truck driver, Yoga, near the entrance of Gate I at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta on Monday.

The trucks were lined up in a long queue, stretching from Kebon Bawang to Terminal Tanjung Priok and continuing beyond Gate I near Tanjung Priok Police Station.

Additionally, a long traffic jam also occurred from the opposite direction, stretching from Ancol towards Gate I of Tanjung Priok Port.

This queue forced drivers to turn off their vehicle engines and wait whilst traffic ahead moved forward.

By 6.00 PM, the congestion had spread to Danau Cincin area near Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). This location serves as vehicle access to Tanjung Priok Police Station and continues through to Kebon Bawang.

Meanwhile, severe congestion also occurred on Jalan Yos Sudarso leading to Gate 9 of Tanjung Priok Port. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded and unable to approach Indonesia’s largest port.

“This accident impacted traffic flow and caused severe congestion,” an official said.

Officials stated that recovery teams were currently evacuating vehicles using tow trucks in hopes of restoring normal traffic flow.

“Trucks have been evacuated and it is hoped that traffic flow will resume,” the official added.
