Hundreds of Children in Cimahi Drop Out of School: The Various Causes
Cimahi Mayor Ngatiyana stated that the number of school dropouts or children who did not continue their education in the city reached 776 individuals recorded up to December 2025. The Cimahi municipal government has prepared various measures to address the issue.
Acting Secretary of the Cimahi Education Agency, Juli Suprijadi, explained that the causes of children dropping out of school are varied. Some are reluctant to return to school due to low motivation, others face economic constraints, whilst some have entered into early marriages or taken up employment to support their families.
Data indicates that children who do not continue their education typically come from transitional stages: primary school graduates who do not proceed to junior secondary school, or junior secondary school graduates who do not advance to senior secondary school.
Mayor Ngatiyana emphasised that the government is working to open various alternative education pathways, including the Paket A, B, and C equivalency programmes for children wishing to pursue equivalent qualifications. For children who have dropped out due to economic factors, operational education assistance programmes have been prepared, including BOP (Education Operational Funding) to support equivalency education.
The government also continues to conduct comprehensive data collection involving officials down to the RT/RW (neighbourhood association) level to ensure no child is overlooked by the education system.
Head of the Cimahi Education Agency, Nana Suyatna, together with the Working Group from the Education Agency, initiated an innovation called "SEPPATU BARU" — an acronym for Strategi Pencegahan dan Penanganan Anak Putus Sekolah Dengan Pendekatan Babarengan, Asuh, Rancangan, Udunan di Kota Cimahi (Strategy for the Prevention and Management of School Dropouts Through a Collaborative, Nurturing, Planned, and Pooled Approach in Cimahi).
Ngatiyana affirmed: "We hope that all children, without exception, can pursue their education."
