Hundreds of BYD Ti7 Owners Report Leaking Panoramic Roofs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of owners of the Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Ti7 electric SUV from BYD have filed reports concerning a leaking panoramic roof, leading to wind noise whilst driving and water entering the charging port.
CarnewsChina reported on Sunday local time that the complaints came from 300 BYD Ti7 users since the model was launched in September 2025. The reports were submitted through the Chinese automotive consumer complaints platform, 12365auto. Of these, 31 reports specifically related to the panoramic glass roof becoming detached.
Interestingly, the complaints have so far only been found on the fully electric vehicle (EV) variant. The first report regarding the roof appeared shortly after the EV version was launched on 30 April 2026, whilst no similar reports have emerged for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant. Owners stated that the glass panel becomes loose and can only be pressed back into place manually as a temporary solution.
Chinese consumer media outlet SMZDM even reported a case of leakage that allowed water to enter the rear charging port area, although one of these reports is known to have been removed from the complaints platform.
Several automotive observers in China suspect the problem does not stem from the vehicle’s design, but rather from the production process. Suspicions point towards uneven bonding quality of the glass panel or an imbalanced pressure distribution during the installation process.
To date, BYD and its Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) dealer network have responded to approximately 99.2 percent of all incoming complaints. However, some owners consider the handling of the issue to be unsatisfactory. One consumer claimed to have been contacted by BYD’s after-sales service, which offered a repair on the condition that the complaint be deleted. The company stated that all reports have been forwarded to the relevant team and asked consumers to await further action from officers.
This case is drawing attention because the BYD Ti7 is one of the high-selling SUVs in China. According to data from China EV DataTracker, Ti7 deliveries reached 17,510 units in May 2026. Although sales have declined compared to their peak of 34,086 units in December 2025, the model remains one of the best-selling SUVs in the domestic market.
In the international market, this model will be marketed under the name BYD Ti7 for both the EV and PHEV variants. To date, there have been no similar reports from export markets. Nevertheless, the development of this case’s handling is expected to draw attention, given that product quality reputation is a crucial factor in global electric vehicle competition.
