Hundreds loose houses to fire

JAKARTA: About 270 people lost their homes and after a fire burned down an entire neighborhood in Kampung Sawah, Kebun Jeruk, on Sunday.

The fire, which razed 60 houses, started about 5 p.m. on Saturday. Police are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

A local official said residents in the vicinity, soldiers and city officials were working to set up temporary shelters and kitchens to help refugees.

On Sunday many residents continued searching for their possessions at the site of the blaze. -- JP
