Hundreds in Makassar Hold Istisqa Prayer for Rain
Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin, together with government officials and members of the public, performed the Istisqa prayer in the courtyard of Al Markaz Al-Islami Mosque to pray for rainfall amid the prolonged dry season, on Saturday (5/9/2026).
The Istisqa prayer was held as an act of effort and collective supplication to ask for rain during the lengthy dry season affecting Indonesia, including the capital of South Sulawesi Province.
“Our presence this morning is a manifestation of our devotion to Allah SWT. Today we gather in the courtyard of Al Markaz Mosque to ask the Almighty God, Allah SWT, to send down rain,” said Munafri.
During the event, Grand Imam of Al Markaz Al-Islami Mosque Muammar Bakry delivered the sermon, while the Istisqa prayer was led by Hasan Basri.
The gathering was also attended by the Chairperson of the Makassar PKK Mobilisation Team Melinda Aksa, Deputy Regent of Soppeng Lutfi Halide, Head of Intelligence Staff of the XIV/Hasanuddin Regional Military Command Colonel (Inf) Nofid Arifin, as well as heads of institutions and vertical agencies.
Munafri said the holding of the Istisqa prayer is a form of human devotion to Allah SWT as well as a spiritual effort in confronting the current drought conditions.
