Hun Sen backs Kota Kinabalu plan
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen supports a proposal to twin Phnom Penh and Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia's Sabah state, officials said on Sunday.
Hun Sen told Sabahan leaders during unofficial talks that he hoped the suggestion could be worked out to boost tourism, Sabah deputy chief minister Tham Nyip Shen was cited as saying by the official Bernama news agency.
The Cambodian premier departed on Sunday after a low-key three-day private visit to Sabah state on Borneo island at the invitation of Malaysian businessman Chen Lip Keong, Bernama said.
Chen was cited by the Sunday Star as saying it was ideal to make Phnom Penh and Kota Kinabalu as twin "tourism cities" as the two were only 90 minutes away by air.
