Humans to Be Completely Replaced Soon, Expert Reveals 2028 Scenario
Rapid developments in artificial intelligence have sparked questions about how quickly technology could ultimately replace human workers entirely.
Research firm Citrini has published a scenario report titled “The 2028 Global Intelligence Crisis” that models an unexplored prediction of AI advancing so rapidly that it surpasses expectations and displaces humans far quicker than anticipated. The report is dated 30 June 2028, approximately two years from now, though the significant changes are projected to begin in late 2025.
According to the scenario, late 2025 marks a turning point when agent-based coding tools experience significant capability improvements. Developers working with tools such as Claude Code or Codex would be able to replicate core functions of mid-tier software-as-a-service (SaaS) products within weeks. This prompts chief information officers to seek in-house product development capabilities.
By 2026, procurement teams decide what these systems can accomplish, including internal teams that prototype products replicating SaaS contracts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in just weeks. This year also marks the beginning of mass redundancies. Companies that successfully navigate this transition experience increased profit margins, earnings exceeding expectations and soaring share prices. The cost savings from eliminated labour expenses are redirected toward AI computing infrastructure, enriching computer company owners whilst real wage growth stalls as laid-off white-collar workers shift to lower-paying roles.
By 2027, large language model (LLM) usage becomes standard practice. AI agents are widely deployed without users fully understanding their function, treating them like automated spell-checkers or grammar features. AI assistants become commonplace, integrating multiple agent trading features. Within two years, the world transforms from controlled, sector-specific conditions into an unfamiliar economic landscape.
The 2028 scenario highlights significant economic impacts. Cracks emerge in the consumer economy as “phantom GDP”—output appearing on national balance sheets but not circulating in the real economy—takes hold. Whilst AI surpasses expectations and technology dominates markets, these gains do not translate into actual economic activity. Mass redundancies continue through 2028, with unemployment reaching 10.2%. The stock market declines 2%, with the S&P 500 index falling 28% from its October 2026 peak. The report concludes that the economy by 2028 will have transformed from manageable conditions into an entirely unfamiliar economic system.
