Thanks to humanoid robots, the wealth of Chinese tycoon Wang Xingxing has grown substantially. The CEO of Unitree Robotics now holds a fortune of US$16 billion, or Rp 282.3 trillion.

Wang himself entered the ranks of billionaires in early August. At that time, Forbes recorded the 36-year-old’s wealth at US$2.4 billion.

The additional wealth now comes from the company’s market debut. Unitree Robotics’ shares reportedly surged by as much as 629% last week, a feat that the South China Morning Post noted brought its market capitalisation to 445 billion yuan (Rp 1,171 trillion).

Chanson & Co managing director Shen Meng explained that the market enthusiasm comes amid strong government support for advanced industries, such as robotics and semiconductors.

“The 629% increase is in line with expectations,” said Shen.

Shen said Unitree’s robots are still used for research, teaching and performances. Unitree also stated something similar in its prospectus.

Citing VN Express on Sunday (22/8/2026), Unitree said the company’s humanoid robots will be used for research and development in the short term. Meanwhile, commercialisation is still in its early stages.

For the long term, human-shaped robots will help with factory and household work. This will happen as hardware costs decline and AI advances.

The potential for humanoid robots is enormous. Global shipments are estimated at 1.2 million units in 2030, a sharp rise from just 20,000 units last year.

BofA Global Research said the humanoid robot market will reach US$37 billion (Rp 653 trillion) within just five years.
