Humanity Has Passed, God-Level AI is Approaching
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - AI technology has developed rapidly in recent years. This will not stop, and even more will happen in the future. One of these is the next level of AI, namely artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is said to be very close. This was conveyed by OpenAI boss, Sam Altman, at an event some time ago. AGI is a term for AI models whose intelligence is equal to that of humans. After reaching this level, AI no longer needs to be continuously trained but can adapt to new problems and transfer its abilities to other machines. Altman even predicted that superintelligence (ASI) will be available soon. At the ASI stage, AI will be able to process problems beyond human biological capabilities. ASI will also no longer only have specific abilities, but can find solutions from various types of problems. “Given what I know about the faster development, I expect super artificial intelligence is not too far away,” said Altman, quoted from Indiana Express, Thursday (26/2/2026). On the same occasion, he also mentioned the large amount of water used for data centers. Many parties say that AI consumes more water in its short-term use. Altman denied this. He assured that there is no need to worry, because this is completely untrue. “You see these things on the internet that say ‘don’t use ChatGPT, it uses 17 gallons of water for each query’ or whatever. This is completely untrue, completely crazy, has nothing to do with reality,” he explained. However, he said it is reasonable to be concerned about energy consumption. Because the world is indeed using a lot of AI and the need to switch to nuclear or wind and solar energy very quickly. Meanwhile, Altman rejected the concept of data centers in space. According to him, this idea is impractical for current conditions. “Orbital data centers will not be relevant on a large scale this decade, due to rough calculations of launch costs and the difficulty of repairing damaged GPUs in space,” he said.
