Humanitarian Mission: TNI Habema Operations Distribute 2 Tonnes of Medicine and Logistics to Papua
The TNI Habema Operations Command has launched a humanitarian mission, distributing 2 tonnes of aid, ranging from medicines to logistics, to the Puncak Jaya region of Papua. This assistance is intended for communities affected by drought and food scarcity in the Agandugume, Oneri, and Lambewi districts.
“We understand that our brothers and sisters in Agandugume, Oneri, and Lambewi are facing a very difficult situation due to extreme weather, which has caused drought and food shortages. Therefore, Koops TNI Habema is moving swiftly to distribute aid so that the basic needs of the community, especially infants and children, can be met immediately,” stated the Commander of the TNI Habema Task Force, Brigadier General TNI Stefie Jantje Nuhujanan, in a statement on Friday (31/07/2026).
Prolonged extreme weather conditions in the Papua highlands, with temperatures ranging between 2 and 9 degrees Celsius, have led to crop failures in the area. Consequently, food shortages have become unavoidable, leaving infants and children as the most vulnerable groups.
The 2-tonne aid package consists of medicines, basic food packages, rice, instant noodles, sugar, and nutritious milk. The distribution utilised air transport to penetrate isolated terrain and navigate unfavourable weather conditions.
Brigadier General Stefie emphasised that the safety and welfare of the Papuan people remain the top priority, noting that this humanitarian mission serves as evidence of the state’s presence amidst the citizens’ hardships.
“Despite the extremely difficult terrain and often unfriendly weather, we will continue our efforts to be present and help. The safety and welfare of the community are our priorities, as every Papuan citizen is part of the great Indonesian family that we must protect together,” he asserted.
He also stressed the importance of synergy between various parties to ensure that aid can reach other remote areas affected by disasters. “We hope this assistance not only eases the food needs of the community but also serves as proof that the state is always present with the people in every situation, especially when they face difficulties,” he added.
“Koops TNI Habema will continue to support every humanitarian effort for the safety and welfare of the Papuan people,” concluded Brigadier General Stefie.
