Humanitarian Cooperation: AMAL and Kelab Perwira Malaysia Inaugurate Mushala and Evaluate Bore Wells
The Amanah Kemanusiaan Global (AMAL) Foundation together with Malaysia’s Kelab Perwira continued their humanitarian synergy in Aceh Tamiang Regency through a third humanitarian mission, which took place on 15-16 May 2026. The mission focused on inaugurating a place of worship, distributing food aid, and evaluating a clean water programme for communities affected by flooding in several areas of Aceh Tamiang. Delegations from both institutions were present. AMAL Foundation, as the field implementer, was represented by its secretary and treasurer, whilst Kelab Perwira Malaysia sent its CEO, COO, and staff to review the progress of humanitarian programmes that have been running since December of last year.
One of the main agendas of this mission was the inauguration of the Al-Ikhlas Mushala in Tanjung Seumentoh Village, Karang Baru District. The mushala was previously severely damaged by flooding and is now back in operation following a construction process that took several months. The presence of this mushala is expected to once again become a centre for worship and social activities for the local community, with a capacity of around 80 worshippers. As an expression of gratitude for the completion of the construction, the team also held a Hot Meals programme, cooking and distributing goat curry dishes to the surrounding community. Four goats were prepared with Surya, a MasterChef Indonesia alumnus from Banda Aceh, and distributed to residents to strengthen togetherness and the spirit of mutual cooperation.
In addition to the mushala inauguration, the joint team evaluated three bore well sites built during a previous mission in several villages in Karang Baru District. Generally, the bore well facilities have benefited dozens of families. However, the assessment results showed several further technical needs, such as installing additional water filters and repairing the electricity flow to support optimised clean water distribution to residents. As a form of long-term commitment, the team conducted an assessment for the construction of a new mushala in Purwodadi Village, Kejuruan Muda District. The mushala is planned to serve around 130 worshippers and is a response to the local community’s need for adequate worship facilities.
The collaboration between AMAL and Kelab Perwira Malaysia was born from shared concern for disaster-affected communities who still need recovery support, particularly in the social, religious, and basic infrastructure sectors. Support from the Malaysian public for the Aceh Tamiang recovery programme is also said to have shown continued high enthusiasm since a fundraising campaign was conducted some time ago. Looking ahead, both institutions are committed to continuing to expand humanitarian cooperation through various follow-up programmes. These include the construction of new bore wells, the procurement of an ambulance, the construction of a Rumah Datok Imam, and the repair of village bridges in the Aceh Tamiang region.
