Humanitarian Action Amid Protest: Residents Raise Funds for NTT Earthquake Victims

Humanitarian activity coloured the student demonstration in Jakarta this afternoon. A number of residents approached the crowd to raise funds to help victims of the disaster in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The action took place in the Central Jakarta area on Tuesday (18/8). Several residents approached police officers and demonstrators at the location.

On a used mineral water box was written ‘Fundraising for Natural Disaster in NTT’. The fundraising was a form of concern for the affected communities.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, appreciated the humanitarian activity. According to him, concern for fellow human beings still has a place amid the expression of aspirations.

“Amid the expression of aspirations, there are members of the public who also showed concern for our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster in NTT. This is a manifestation of empathy, solidarity, and the spirit of mutual cooperation that we must continue to uphold,” said Senior Commissioner Budi on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police viewed the activity as a portrait of humanity within the democratic space. The expression of aspirations can run side by side with concern for others, while also demonstrating that humanitarian values remain present amid the dynamics of society.
