Human Rights Violation Alleged in Corrosive Chemical Attack on Andrie Yunus
Jakarta, KOMPAS.com — Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras), was attacked with corrosive acid by unknown individuals on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Two individuals carried out the physical assault, though police have since determined that more than two perpetrators were involved in coordinating the attack.
Yunus was attacked with coordinated precision by four individuals identified through CCTV camera footage captured at multiple locations across the city.
“Most of the CCTV installations across the Jakarta area have sufficiently high resolution, which has allowed us to obtain clear images at several locations,” said Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, Director of General Criminal Investigation for the Metro Jaya Regional Police Command, in remarks to journalists on Monday, 16 March 2026.
In addition to CCTV footage, police have also obtained communications networks related to the corrosive acid attack.
Through Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, the police will conduct confirmation of developments in the investigation in the near term.
“We will provide updates on the progress of this investigation at regular intervals over the next one to two days,” said Asep.
