Human Rights Ministry States Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case Attracts International Attention
Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance at the Ministry of Human Rights, Munafrizal Manan, stated that the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus has strategic dimensions. The case has attracted widespread public attention as well as international spotlight.
“This case serves as a test for public trust in law enforcement and human rights protection in Indonesia; therefore, it must be ensured that there is no reduction or distortion of the case,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3).
The case, he said, must be free from distortion to maintain public trust in law enforcement. The government, he added, affirms it will cover the medical treatment costs for Andrie Yunus through the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
“LPSK has stated its commitment. The Ministry of Health is also ready to provide it free of charge,” Munafrizal said.
The Ministry of Human Rights, he continued, also appreciates the steps taken by the Police, which have initiated the investigation process against the acid attack perpetrators allegedly involving TNI BAIS personnel. However, the process is requested to proceed professionally and based on evidence.
He assessed that this case requires strategic handling because the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI) has detained four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) suspected of involvement.
Polri and TNI, he said, are key to ensuring the case revelation is comprehensive and thorough.
President Prabowo Subianto needs to immediately form an independent fact-finding team (TPF).
He explained that in the context of geopolitics and national stability, clarity of information and firmness of the apparatus are key factors.
