Jakarta (ANTARA) - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has instructed his subordinates to follow up on allegations of violations at a childcare facility (daycare) in Yogyakarta, following reports of violence and discrimination against children.

“On that very day, I ordered the Ministry of Human Rights team to go down and check, and they have already visited, and I am just waiting for the report to come in today,” Pigai said in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that the Ministry of Human Rights team had been in the field on the same day after receiving the report, and they are now awaiting the results of the examination from the Central Java Regional Office.

The case came to light after the Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta was reported to the police regarding allegations of violence and discriminatory treatment towards children. Police authorities conducted a raid on Friday (24/4).

From initial data collection, at least 53 children are indicated to have experienced violence out of a total of 103 children placed at the facility. The alleged violence is said to have been ongoing since the daycare began operating about a year ago.

Pigai emphasised that attention to daycare issues is also part of the government’s broader agenda in child protection. He referred to the President’s previous statement highlighting the importance of improving childcare services.

According to him, prompt handling and field verification are key to ensuring effective protection for vulnerable groups, especially children.

The results of the report from the team are expected to serve as the basis for further steps, both in terms of law enforcement and improvements to the daycare supervision system.
