Human Rights Minister Encourages Closer Indonesia-France Strategic Partnership
Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has encouraged the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and France through closer cooperation in politics, security, strategic industries, and regional resilience to address global challenges. Representing President Prabowo Subianto at the diplomatic reception for Bastille Day in Jakarta on Monday, Pigai stated that the relationship between the two countries is built on a foundation of mutual respect, mutual trust, and a shared commitment to realising peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world. “Bastille Day is a powerful symbol of liberty, civic values, and the spirit of democracy; principles that are also very close to Indonesia. These shared values are the main pillars of our partnership,” Pigai said in a statement on Wednesday. He noted that bilateral relations between Indonesia and France have shown positive development in recent years, particularly in the political and security fields. He said President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to France in May 2026 and his meeting with President Emmanuel Macron served as an important milestone in elevating relations towards a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. “This partnership reflects a modern diplomatic approach, one that combines defence cooperation, strategic industries, maritime security, and resilience in facing ever-evolving global challenges. This partnership is built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a stable Indo-Pacific region,” he stated. Pigai also expressed appreciation to the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, the French Embassy, the French community, and partners who have contributed to strengthening bilateral ties. Concluding his speech, Pigai invited Indonesia and France to continue strengthening a strategic, dynamic, and forward-looking partnership to make a real contribution to peace, stability, and prosperity for both nations and the Indo-Pacific region. “May the friendship between Indonesia and France continue to grow and contribute to a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous future for both nations,” he said.
