Human Rights Minister Demands Police Investigate Motive Behind Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
Indonesia’s Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai has strongly condemned the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), which resulted in serious injuries to various parts of the victim’s body.
“The state forbids all forms of violence or actions that violate the law and attack individuals or the honour of citizens,” said Pigai.
“A rapid response from law enforcement officials is urgently needed at this time,” he added.
The Ministry of Human Rights has expressed hope that police will swiftly identify the perpetrators and reveal the motives behind the incident, thereby ensuring legal certainty and guaranteeing protection of human rights for all citizens.
KontraS has urged the disclosure of those responsible for the acid attack on Yunus. Notably, observers have highlighted an irregularity in the incident, as no valuable possessions belonging to the victim were reported missing.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has given special attention to the acid attack case involving the KontraS Deputy Coordinator.
