Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai has officially appointed Sofia Alatas as Acting Director General of Instruments and Strengthening (IDP) for Human Rights. This appointment is a step to maintain programme continuity while strengthening the direction of national human rights policies.

Previously, Sofia held the position of Director of Compilation and Evaluation of Human Rights Instruments. This experience provides a strong foundation for the assignment, given the strategic role of the directorate general in formulating, evaluating, and ensuring the effective implementation of human rights instruments.

Pigai emphasised that this appointment is not merely administrative but also part of efforts to accelerate organisational performance.

“This appointment is to ensure that the strengthening of human rights instruments proceeds consistently, measurably, and delivers real impacts for society,” Pigai stated in his remarks on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Pigai is optimistic that Sofia will carry out this mandate well, while also strengthening cross-sectoral synergy in advancing human rights in Indonesia.

This appointment takes effect from the date of determination until the appointment of a definitive official in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
