Human rights members
Human rights members
From Suara Karya
On one television station, the National Commission on Human
Rights (Komnas HAM) called on the public to voice their ideas on
the election of commission members. As a good citizen, I would
like to respond to this call.
I think that the government established the commission in an
effort to ensure that the public enjoys justice in terms of human
rights. The commission will always remind the government and
other parties at home not to violate human rights. Clearly, the
commission has been established to benefit foreign countries or
to harm our national interest.
Therefore, the membership of this commission should not be
made up of activists of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as
their activities seem to be frequently sponsored by foreign
parties to benefit from their own interests. If figures from NGOs
are elected members of this commission, they will find it
difficult not to work in the interest of foreign parties.
I would imagine that we would be kept busy with various human
rights issues if these figures were placed in the commission.
These problems would prevent us from developing our country
smoothly. Therefore, I really hope that people such as Emmy
Hafild, Wardah and Hendardi are not appointed members of the
commission. Let them remain in NGOs as they have until now.
