Jakarta — Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was attacked with acid by an unknown assailant.

According to Dimas Bagus Arya, coordinator of KontraS’s executive board, the acid attack caused serious injuries across Yunus’s body. “Particularly on the right and left hands, face, chest, and around the eyes,” Dimas stated in an official statement confirmed by Kompas.com on Friday, 13 March 2026.

The attack occurred around 23:00 Western Indonesia Time. Following the assault, Yunus was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment. Medical examination revealed he sustained burns covering 24 per cent of his body.

“Based on information we have gathered, we believe this acid attack represents an attempt to silence critical voices in society, particularly human rights defenders,” Dimas said.

The Jakarta Central Police confirmed the incident. Erlyn Sumantri, head of public relations at Central Jakarta Police, stated that the case falls within the jurisdiction of Senen Police Station.
