Jakarta (ANTARA) - The humanitarian organisation Human Initiative (HI) is targeting 26,000 sacrificial animal donors for its ‘Qurbanweek 20 ม6’ programme to expand the distribution of livestock to various regions across Indonesia.

Human Initiative President Tomy Hendrajati stated in Jakarta on Monday that this target represents an increase from last year, which involved more than 21,000 donors. “We hope the number of donors increases this year as it will lead to wider distribution. Last year, we engaged over 21,000 donors, and this year, we are targeting 26,000,” said Tomy during the launch of ‘Qurbanweek 2026’ in the Sudirman-Thamrin Car Free Day area, Jakarta, on Sunday (17/5).

According to him, the increase in donors is expected to broaden the reach of livestock distribution while simultaneously supporting local farmers who serve as partners to Human Initiative in various regions. The launch of ‘Qurbanweek 2026’, held at the Tugu Sepeda area in Central Jakarta, involved the public, communities, and volunteers ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. The event featured several activities, including humanitarian aerobics, free health checks, a sacrifice campaign parade, and traditional Sasando musical performances.

Tomy noted that Human Initiative continues to promote the distribution of sacrifices that are trustworthy, Sharia-compliant, and precisely targeted through its ‘Sebar Qurban’ programme. Meanwhile, Human Initiative Vice President Andjar Radite stated that the organisation has been managing the distribution of sacrificial animals for 26 years. He mentioned that the distribution focuses on underprivileged communities, particularly in eastern Indonesia, such as West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku. “In the T3 regions (frontier, outermost, and least developed), people may only enjoy beef once a year, so the distribution of sacrifices is highly anticipated,” said Andjar. In addition to domestic efforts, Human Initiative also distributes sacrificial animals to communities in Palestine.
