The mystery surrounding the kidnapping of a Ukrainian national in Bali is beginning to be solved. Bali Police disclosed the results of DNA tests on body parts found on Ketewel Beach, Gianyar Regency. The tests showed a 99.99 percent match with Ukrainian national Ihor Komarav (28), who is suspected to be the kidnapping victim. Ariasandy, Head of Public Relations for the Bali Police, in Denpasar, said on Friday that the DNA samples from the body parts found on Ketewel Beach, as well as blood traces at multiple crime scenes and the victim’s mother’s DNA, were 99.99 percent identical. The tests, he said, were conducted from autopsies at Prof Ngoerah General Hospital, Denpasar and DNA testing performed in Bali, as well as by the Forensic Laboratory of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) at the Indonesian National Police, from 26 February 2026, with results received on 5 March 2026. “Comparisons of the DNA profiles indicate that the maternal allele of the mother’s DNA profile matches the maternal allele of the blood profile on the black Avanza car and the blood profile at the Villa Summer in Tabanan, and the DNA profile from the six bone samples we examined earlier, based on maternity index calculations, yields a probability of 99.99 percent,” Ariasandy said. Detailing, the samples consisted of six pieces: a molar tooth bone, clavicle, femur fragment, rib bone, toe bone, and a shin bone fragment. DNA found in these parts was analysed and identified as belonging to a young male (XY chromosome) whose blood profile matched the blood profile found on the black Avanza car and the villa in Desa Pangkung, Tabanan, leading to the conclusion that he is Ihor Komarav.
