Jakarta (ANTARA) – Huawei introduced a 896-line LiDAR system with a dual optical path architecture, claimed to be the world’s highest-spec mass-produced LiDAR. Reported by Carnewschina on Wednesday local time, the LiDAR adopts a dual-optical-path architecture that can boost resolution by up to four times compared with previous products, making it a sensor with extremely high perception capabilities. According to Huawei, the system can consistently and clearly recognise objects as small as 14 centimetres from a distance of 120 metres, including low-reflectivity items such as fallen traffic cones or deflated tyres. The combination of both creates an imaging-in-imaging effect at high resolution that clarifies detection of small obstacles, irregular shapes, or low-reflectivity barriers. As an illustration of the sensor’s capability, Huawei states that this LiDAR can even clearly capture a dog wagging its tail from 55 metres away, a significant leap from previously mass-produced LiDAR. Each line represents an independent laser beam, and the more lines, the denser the vertical scan, producing 3D point clouds that are clearer for recognising pedestrians, vehicles, and other objects with higher accuracy. Previously, the highest line-count mass-produced LiDAR in the industry reached 520 lines. The 896-line LiDAR sensor will first be installed on the Aito M9 and Maextro S800 vehicles from the HIMA intelligent-vehicle alliance. Additionally, other brands collaborating with Huawei are expected to adopt the LiDAR on their latest models.
