Huawei Pura 100 may feature DSLR-style external camera lens

Huawei is reportedly preparing its next flagship smartphone, the Huawei Pura 100, featuring new camera technology that is expected to include a DSLR-style external lens.

The handset, projected to launch in 2027, is reported to feature a 200MP camera sensor whose performance could be further enhanced by the addition of an external lens.

According to the news site Huawei Central on Saturday, the news originated from tech leaker Smart Pikachu via a post on the social network Weibo.

For the Huawei Mate 90 series, support for an external lens will reportedly only be available for the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition model.

An external lens, or teleconverter, is a physical optical add-on that can enhance the image capture capabilities of a smartphone. This device can be clipped or attached to the smartphone’s camera bump. Such an accessory expands the field of view, enlarges close-up images, and provides optical zoom without relying on digital cropping.

Teleconverters are available in various types of perspectives, including ultrawide, macro, telephoto, and more. Examples of such devices can be seen on Honor phones, which recently introduced two different teleconverters for the Magic 9 series.

In addition to camera details, the informant mentioned that Huawei will utilise new-generation dual-layer OLED technology for the Pura 100 series. The company is reportedly testing significant screen upgrades, and next-generation tandem OLED panels may be part of these improvements.

Huawei’s next-generation camera flagship is expected to introduce not only primary imaging technology this time, but also significant changes in terms of design, a high-performance screen experience, and new unlocking methods.
