Huawei May Revive the Trend for Compact-Screen Smartphones
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Huawei may revive the trend for smartphones with compact screens, such as those once seen on Apple’s iPhone mini models and Asus’s Zenfone 10.
The report is based on a leak from technology tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), who said Huawei is working on a smartphone with a 6.17-inch (15.67 cm), 1.5K-resolution display, as reported by Gizmochina on Saturday.
Although the screen is not as small as the iPhone mini’s 5.3-inch (13.46 cm) display, a 6.17-inch screen is still relatively compact compared with most phones currently on the market.
There is little confirmed information so far, as the leak reportedly comes from an early splash-screen image being developed by Huawei. It is therefore unclear which of the company’s smartphone lines the device will belong to.
The leak does not say whether the phone will be part of the Nova, Pura or Mate series, or whether it will belong to an entirely new line.
It would not be surprising if Huawei pursued a compact-screen phone. In recent years, the company has made concerted efforts to experiment with unusual form factors and turn them into new trends.
The Pura X, for example, is a foldable phone with a wide screen that breaks with the design of most foldable phones on the market.
The device made Huawei the first smartphone maker in the industry to introduce a wide-screen design for a foldable phone, and has even prompted competitors such as Samsung and Apple to adopt a similar look for their latest foldable phones.
Given Huawei’s distinctive designs, developing a conventional phone with a 6.17-inch screen would not be unusual.
No further specifications, such as the chipset, battery or cameras, have been revealed. Nevertheless, Huawei’s device is one to watch as a potential catalyst for a renewed compact-phone trend.
