Huawei Launches NG WAN Report to Enhance IP Networks and Drive New Growth for Telecom Operators
Beijing, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) - At the Upperside World Congress 2026, Huawei hosted the “IP Gala Summit” themed “Next-Generation WAN, Boosting New Growth for Carriers”. During the event, Huawei launched an official report on Next-Generation (NG) WAN, jointly with WBBA, IPv6 Forum, and a number of leading telecom operators in attendance. The report provides an overview of IP networks targeted for 2030. In this way, operators can build networks that are comprehensively secure, ensure user experience, and drive revenue growth and operational efficiency. Global operators, industry leaders, and standards organisations discussed various topics such as multi-dimensional awareness, network security and resilience, and network autonomy, to accelerate the development of IP networks towards the Net5.5G era.
National Strategies and Industry Development: Accelerating the Upgrade of AI-Based Network Infrastructure
Operators are leveraging AI capabilities—supported by IPv6 and SRv6 technologies—to optimise network potential, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance. Latif Ladid, President of the IPv6 Forum, highlighted steps taken by various countries in implementing strategies focused on AI sovereign cloud, network security and resilience, and quantum security—as a foundation for operators to develop more advanced network infrastructure. The IPv6 Forum is also collaborating with global industry partners to promote the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as IPv6/SRv6, network autonomy, and AI application awareness.
Official NG WAN Report: Containing Plans for Future IP Network Development
In the era of the Internet of Agents, the integration of intelligent technologies and networks is driving the evolution of IP networks towards more efficient and intelligent architectures. John Cai, President of the Router Domain, Data Communication Product Line at Huawei, stated in his speech that NG WAN must be built on three main pillars—multi-dimensional awareness, network security and resilience, and network autonomy—so that operators can accelerate network monetisation, cut costs, and improve efficiency. This official NG WAN report contains comprehensive guidance on WAN development towards networks targeted for 2030, including key features, target architecture, value scenarios, breakthrough technologies, and network construction specifications—thus providing strategic analysis for global operators in network evolution and innovation.
Operators’ Best Practices: Setting Benchmarks for Network Evolution
Mehmet Durmus, Associate Director of IP/MPLS Core and Data Center Networks at Turkcell, Turkey, shared experiences on implementing NG WAN. According to him, new innovations such as 5G/5G-A and intelligent computing place significant burdens on conventional networks. To address these challenges, Turkcell adopted cutting-edge solutions like lossless RDMA, AI-based dynamic energy saving, and optical fibre network maintenance, thereby achieving significant advancements in intelligent computing, energy efficiency, and intelligent operations and maintenance (O&M). These efforts serve as benchmarks for next-generation IP networks.
Huawei NG WAN: Supporting Operators in Building AI-Based Integrated WAN
Xu Huan, Vice President of the Router Domain, Data Communication Product Line at Huawei, explained the foundations, main scenarios, and business value of NG WAN. He stated that NG WAN will be centred on AI, equipped with an integrated network architecture that covers full services, and integrates networks, computing, and security. The network will be built on an environmentally friendly ultra-broadband foundation with 400GE/800GE technology, supported by multi-dimensional awareness features. This also ensures user experience and premium services, increases ARPU and DOU, and guarantees always-on services through comprehensive security and resilience systems. Additionally, the network will leverage AI agents to enhance network autonomy.
At the event, technical experts also shared experiences on technological innovations and service awareness practices, comprehensive network security and resilience, and intelligent network management in home broadband scenarios.
Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to strengthen partnerships with global operators and industry leaders to maximise network potential while driving sustainable growth for operators.
