Barcelona, Spain – (ANTARA/PRNewswire) At Huawei’s product and solutions launch held at MWC Barcelona 2026, Bob Chen, President of Huawei Optical Business Product Line, introduced next-generation Optical Network products and solutions to foster synergy between AI and the network, and to accelerate the evolution towards an AI-centric, all-optical network.

Upgrading optical networks for the AI era is considered the right move. ITU-T officially released the ION-2030 vision, defining the main capabilities, application scenarios, and a standardisation roadmap for next-generation optical networks. Global telecom operators are also accelerating the deployment of next-generation optical networks.

Bob Chen stated, “Huawei is developing next-generation Optical Network solutions in two core directions: AI for the Network and the Network for AI. In AI for the Network, AI technology is used to deliver intelligent optical fibre sensing capabilities, improve network performance and user experience, enhance operation and maintenance (O&M) efficiency, and reduce energy consumption. Meanwhile, in the Network for AI, better network capabilities will help operators build AI-centric, fully optical networks and accelerate AI deployment at homes and in enterprises.”

AI for the Network: Improving Quality and Network Efficiency

Intelligent fibre sensing: With fibre risk sensing models and fault identification models, potential risks can be studied earlier, and fault locations can be found with an accuracy of up to 10 metres.

Network performance enhancement: A network performance simulation model built from thousands of optical parameters can improve the accuracy of network performance evaluation and extend transmission distance by up to 20%.

Network experience enhancement: Real-time Wi-Fi interference can be detected, while the AI algorithm automatically adjusts Wi-Fi power so that network speeds increase by up to 20% under interference.

Energy savings: Service traffic is analysed in real time, and ports and network boards are automatically adjusted. When there is no traffic, all ports and boards operate in hibernate mode, reducing average energy consumption by up to 40%.

Smart O&M: AI technology increases intelligence in planning, deployment, maintenance and optimisation of networks. For example, a home broadband O&M agent automatically identifies and detects over 60 types of faults, and helps NOC technicians resolve them through natural language interaction, reducing the need for on-site visits to customers’ homes.

Network for AI: Accelerating AI Deployment

Optical access: Huawei is building target networks with gigabit-level download bandwidth and up to 100 Mbps upload bandwidth to meet AI service bandwidth requirements at home and improve overall home network experience.

Optical transmission: Huawei is developing networks with 5 ms latency for national networks, 3 ms for regional networks, and 1 ms for metro networks. This supports millisecond-scale compute access and ensures optimal performance for AI applications.

Huawei also launched a full range of next-generation Optical Network products and solutions. For optical access, Huawei offers Next Generation FAN products such as FTTR, OLT, ONT, and ODN. For optical transmission, Huawei launched Next Generation OTN products for backbone networks, OTN optical layers, and metro OTN networks to help operators build AI-driven Agentic UBB.
